The district police on Thursday booked a youth of Ramdev Nagar of Moga for abducting a Class-12 girl.

Assistant sub-inspector Gamdoor Singh of south city police station said a case was registered on the complaint of victim's father. "My 17-year-old daughter had gone to the market for purchasing school books and other study material and did not return. During our search, we came to know that Navdeep Singh alias Nindi, who lived in the neighbourhood and worked with a government school, had lured her on the pretext of marriage," the victim's father said in his complaint.

Senior superintendent of police Surjit Singh Grewal said after receiving the complaint, police parties were sent to different locations in Moga and surrounding areas in search of the accused.

"We have constituted three special teams led by an SP-rank officer for investigating the matter. A case has been registered," said the SSP.
