Amarjit Singh Dhaliwal, superintendent of central excise and service tax department, who was arrested for accepting `20 lakh as bribe was produced before the court of judicial magistrate Ranjiv Kumar on Tuesday. The court remanded him in one-day police custody.
The vigilance team had demanded the accused's police remand to interrogate him. The vigilance officers submitted before the court that Dhaliwal's house was yet to be searched, as it was locked.
The vigilance bureau had arrested Dhaliwal on Monday for accepting `20 lakh in bribe from Gurdeep Singh Jujhar, owner of Fastway Digital Cable Network. The accused had demanded `3 crore in bribe, but the deal was fixed at `2 crore, of which `60 lakh were to be given before Diwali.
