A 16-year-old child died while two others were injured as the roof of a house caved-in near Mehna Chowk due to heavy rain on Saturday.
The roof of house collapsed near Mehna Chowck resulting in the death of Mohammad Inu while another 12-year-old child and a woman were injured.
Heavy rain brought normal life to a standstill in the city with many parts being flooded with water. As per the Punjab Agricultural University’s meteorological department city received over 100 mm of rain.
The 100 feet road, Ajit road, Power House road, Sirki Bazaar, Mall road, Ganesha Basti, Nai Basti, Amrik Singh road and Guru Nanak Pura Mohalla were flooded with over four feet of water at many locations. The extent of rain could be gauged from the fact that an officer residing in Civil Lines area which is a low-lying area said that even his bed room was flooded with water.
The post office employees is located in Civil Lines area had to call police control room seeking help to evacuate them from the building as water had entered in. As many as 12 employees were inside the building till evening, waiting for help from the administration.
“The employees trapped inside the post office were rescued by a team of revenue officials. The administration has activated a network to keep a tab on the situation,” said deputy commissioner, Bathinda, Basant Garg.
