One dead, two injured in Behram road mishap

A Jalandhar based resident was killed in a road accident while two others were injured when the car they were travelling in collided with a speeding truck at Behram town near the Jalandhar-Chandigarh highway in the wee hours of Thursday.

 A Jalandhar based resident was killed in a road accident while two others were injured when the car they were travelling in collided with a speeding truck at Behram town near the Jalandhar-Chandigarh highway in the wee hours of Thursday. 

The victim has been identified as Satnam Singh, 45, of Gopal Nagar of Jalandhar. The injured Kamal Kumar, 35, and Didar Singh, 32, of the same locality sustained injuries and were admitted to a local Guru Nanak Mission Hospital in Dhahan Kaleran near Behram. The condition of the two injured has been stated as stable. The victims used to work in a courier company. They were bringing few parcels and other luggage items in their car from Chandigarh to Jalandhar.The truck driver Deepak Kumar of Anandpur Sahib managed to flee from the spot immediately after the mishap.The accused was later arrested by the police.  As per Behram police, the victims were travelling to Jalandhar from Chandigarh in Innova car at around 4 am and Satnam was driving the vehicle. While the truck loaded with large size plastic drums was being driven by the accused Deepak. The truck was going to SBS Nagar from Phagwara. 

The collision happened at a sharp curve near a religious shrine in Behram.  It is the same spot where 15 passengers were killed and at least 42 injured when an overloaded speeding private bus overturned on the sharp curve ramming into a tree here in 2015.  SHO Surinder Chand said that the body has been handed over to the family after the post-mortem and a case under Section 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC ) has been registered against the accused.
