One held for bid to break open ATM

The Amritsar City Police have arrested a resident of Talwandi Dogran village on the charges of attempting to steal cash from the ATM of a bank in Sultanwind village with one of his accomplices, identified as Shamsher Singh alias Shera, also a resident of the same village.

Interestingly, their crime was witnessed by headconstables Gurmej Singh and Sukhdev Singh, who were out for patrolling in the area when at around 11.45pm, when they heard some noises from the ATM of a bank near the Tanga stand at village Sultanwind.

They went to inquire and found the two accused trying to break open the ATM chamber with an iron rod. Amandeep Singh was nabbed, while Shamsher Singh managed to abscond.

ASI Harbans Singh of Sultanwind police station said the accused had been booked under Sections 380 (theft in dwelling house), 457 (lurking house trespass or house-breaking by night), 511 (attempting to commit offences punishment with life imprisonment) and 34 (acts done in furtherance of common intention of the IPC).
