One held for rape bid on six-year-old in Nawanshahr

Local police on Thursday arrested 25-year-old Sunil Kumar of local Toor Colony for attempting to rape a six-year-old girl on Wednesday evening.


According to the police, the accused, originally a resident of Purnia district of Bihar lived in the neighbourhood of the victim.

The family members of the victim, in a complaint, alleged that the accused took the girl to a nearby house, when she was alone at home, and attempted to rape her.

But, the victim raised an alarm and her family members and others rushed to her rescue. They tried to catch the accused but he managed to flee the spot.

A case under sections 4, 6 and 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 and Section 376 (rape) to 511 (attempt) has been registered against the accused.
