Five persons, purportedly members of a gang, attacked a person with hockey sticks and sharp-edged weapons at Gandhi Camp locality on Friday, leaving him critically injured.

While local residents alleged that the group also opened fire in the air, the police denied this.

The injured, Ashwani Kumar, a labourer, has sustained serious injuries on his head. He has been admitted to the civil hospital.

The police have registered a case against five persons, including Rocky, Raju, Vicky, Deepu and Madan, under section 307 (attempt to murder), 452 (house trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon) and 149 (unlawful assembly and guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object).

Ashwani alleged that around 10-15 bikers entered the street at around 9.30 am and started opening fire in the air.

Four to five assailants attacked him with hockey sticks, sharp-edged weapons and also threw bricks on other family members, he alleged.

The police said they had carried raids in several places to nab the assailants but no arrest was made so far.
