North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) has flayed the decision of state government to launch online lottery and horse racing in state and apprehended that Punjab would be converted into ‘Gambling Den’. In a press release, NAPA spokesperson Satnam Singh Chahal said that a green signal to ‘Online lottery’ will make Punjab a ‘Gambling Den ‘and it would ruin thousands of people.
Chahal said, “It is tough for the Punjabi Community to understand that why is the Punjab government so keen to cash in on people’s love of gambling through online lottery without going into the long term impacts when the youth of Punjab will be involved in this online gambling. Online lottery may be a fund raising project for the government, but it is ultimately a waste of time and resources."
“The Punjabi youth is already caught in a web of drug-addiction, which is frequently being smuggled through the Indo-Pak border and in view of no job opportunities for them, a lot of consequences are involved with the start of online lottery and horse race gambling. To become rich overnight, the youth is again likely to take to crimes. This is disgraceful."
“All this is nothing but promoting casino culture in Punjab. In India we cannot afford such type of activities. If this phenomenon continues, a bleak future is staring at Punjab and it should be stopped by all means,” he added.
