Once the grace period is over, the subsidy on domestic LPG cylinders will be directly credited in the bank accounts of the consumers. Thus, only those who have linked their Aadhaar numbers to both their bank accounts and LPG consumer number will be able to receive cash subsidy in their bank accounts.

The Direct Benefit Transfer for LPG consumer scheme was launched on September 1 and a grace period of three months was also given to people to link their Aadhaar number with LPG consumer number and bank account. During the grace period all consumers got the LPG cylinders at subsidised rate.

As per latest details, the district has a population of nearly 22 lakh, of which 19.87 lakh had been enrolled for the Aadhaar cards and 16.59 lakh UID cards have been generated.

The process of card generation is going on at a snail's pace as there were only 50 machines in the district. The administration had earlier promised to install 100 machines to cover the entire population of the district.

An official said that after apex court's ruling in September that Aadhaar cards were not mandatory for availing benefits such as LPG subsidy, people did not show interest in applying for UID numbers and updating the details with the gas agencies.

Confirming this, Lead district manager Balwant Singh said that Aadhaar numbers of the 24% population in the district have been linked to their LPG consumer number and bank accounts.
