Over 15,500 file nominations for panchayat poll

As many as 3,364 and 12,169 candidates filed their nominations for election to the posts of sarpanch and panch respectively, on the last date of submissions for panchayat polls on Saturday. The polling and counting for the elections would take place on July 3.

As many as 3,364 and 12,169 candidates filed their nominations for election to the posts of sarpanch and panch respectively, on the last date of submissions for panchayat polls on Saturday.

Revealing this, district election officer-cum-deputy commissioner Shruti Singh said that in Jalandhar (East) block around 397 candidates filed nominations for the post of sarpanch and 1,365 for panch.

While in Rurka Kalan block, 189 nominatiosn were filed for the post of sarpanch and 845 for panch.

She said that in Nurmahal block, 276 and 988 nominations respectively were received for the posts.

In Shahkot block, however, 323 nominations were filed for sarpanch post and 1,203 for post of panch. While in Lohia block, 302 and 897 nominations were filed for the posts.

In Jalandhar (west) 411 nominations were received by the administration to the post sarpanch while 1,484 candidates filed nominations for the post of panchs.

She further said that 264 nominations for sarpanch and 1001 for panch were received in Adampur block and 327 for sarpanch and 1129 nominations for pach were filed in Bhogpur block.

In Nakodar block, 334 and 1250 nominations were filed for the posts of sarpanch and panch respectively. While in Mehatpur block nominations filed for the posts of sarpanch and panch is 197 and 700 respectively.

“The papers would be scrutinised on June 24 and the candidates can withdraw their nominations till June 25,” she said.

The polling and counting for the elections would take place on July 3.
