Over 3.15 lakh metric tonnes wheat procured in Gurdaspur

As much as 3.25 lakh metric tonnes of wheat arrived in various mandis of Gurdaspur district by May 10, of which over 3.15 lakh metric tonnes were procured by various government agencies and private traders.

Presiding over a meeting of district heads of various government procurement agencies here on Monday, deputy commissioner Abhinav Trikha said the government agencies had procured over 2.93 lakh metric tonnes of wheat in the district, while private traders purchased 22,341 metric tonnes.

Trikha said more than 1.3 lakh metric tonnes of procured wheat had been lifted, besides making online payment of Rs 261.92 crore to the farmers for the procured crop.

Giving detail, Trikha said PUNSUP procured 5,5043 metric tonnes, Pungrain 59,935 metric tonnes, Markfed 57,638 metric tonnes, Warehousing Corporation 50,593 metric tonnes, Punjab Agro 22,813 metric tonnes and the Food Corporation of India (FCI) procured 47,471 metric tonnes of wheat.
