Over 50 residents of Bhai Rupa village were arrested in Phul town near here on Friday while staging a protest demanding release of the villagers arrested after the clash over land dispute a few day ago.
Over 50 residents of Bhai Rupa village were arrested in Phul town near here on Friday while staging a protest demanding release of the villagers arrested after the clash over land dispute a few day ago.
The residents had gathered outside the court complex demanding the release of the five villagers arrested after clash between residents under the banner of Dhan Dhan Baba Bhai Roop Chandji Langar Sewa Society and a team of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on May 7.
The police used a mild force to disperse the protesters while over 50 were arrested and taken to Phul police station. Two of the villagers Gagandeep Singh and another person reportedly suffered minor injuries. The villagers alleged that even as the court has granted bail to these persons, the police have arrested them again by booking them in another case under Section 107 and 151 of IPC against them.
Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police (Detective) Swaran Singh said that the accused have been granted bail for charges under section 307 of IPC but have been sent to judicial custody in a separate case for charges under sections 107 and 151 of IPC till June 11. He denied of having used any force against the protesters.
