Paavan of DAV Public School (DAVPS), Sector 8, returned with three medals – two gold and one silver – from the 6th Open Table Tennis Tournament recently organised held in Khanna.
The city paddler won her first gold in the sub-junior girls singles event after defeating SAS Nagar’s Parvita 3-1.
In their semifinal matches played earlier, Paavan had ousted local player Bharti 3-0, while Parvita had outplayed Nishtha Sharma, a student of DAVPS-8, 3-1.
Paavan carried the winning momentum forward, and claimed the top honour in the junior event. She defeated her schoolmate Nishtha for the second gold. In the semifinal matches, Paavan and Nishtha had defeated Anmol (3-0) and Parvita (3-2), respectively.
Paavan, who was looking good for the golden hat-trick, however missed out on the opportunity after losing to Rajpura’s Reetika 3-1 in the women’s final.
Earlier, Paavan had defeated local favourite Neelam 3-0, while Reetika had downed Anmol (Khanna) 3-1, in their respective semifinal matches of the event.
