With main crop beginning to arrive in the grain markets, the paddy procurement process has picked up momentum in the district.
By Tuesday, 9,988 metric tons of paddy had reached the grain markets in the district, of which 5,534 MT different agencies had purchased already. Deputy commissioner Kumar Rahul has issued order for the purchase of paddy within the stipulated time and lifting of the stock within 72 hours to avoid harassment to farmers.
He also directed the grain market officers to make all possible arrangement to face inclement weather in order to protect the crop stored in the open. "We appeal farmers to bring only dry crop to the grain markets to satisfy the norms of purchase," he added.
So far, Pungrain has purchased 1,405 MT, markfed 500 MT, Punsup 262 MT, warehousing corporation 108 MT, Punjab Agro 681 MT, Food Corporation of India (FCI) 671 MT; and private rice millers 2,901 MT of paddy.
