Paid news: Show cause notice to SAD, Congress

The district returning officer Arun Sekhri on Friday issued a show cause notice to the Congress and to the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) for paid news being published in various vernacular dailies.

The officer asked the parties to submit their reply within 48 hours.

District returning officer Arun Sekhri in press note said that notice had been issued to Congress candidate Sadhu Singh Dharamsot for getting paid news published on page 7 in a Hindi daily on April 8.
He said that a similar notice has also been issued to SAD candidate Kulwant Singh with regard to the publishing of a paid news on page 3 of a Punjabi daily on April 11.

Meanwhile the Republican Party of India (RPI) candidate Iqbal Singh has withdrawn his nomination papers for the Fatehgarh Sahib (Reserved) constituency, leaving 15 candidates in the fray.

The district returning officer said that the interested candidates can withdraw their nominations on April 12 up to 3 pm.
