Famous Pakistani rock band “The Raga Boyz” will perform at an evening of pop music to be organised by the North Zone Culture Centre, Patiala and union ministry of culture at Gaiety Theatre on April 16.

In a press statement issued here, the director of department of language, art and culture, Arun Sharma said the programme is part of the Baisakhi celebrations as ‘The Raga Boyz’ have been invited to perform at Jalandhar, Patiala, Chandigarh and Shimla from April 13 to April 17.

“This will be part of a cultural exchange programme between Pakistan and India with a view to maintain cordial relations between the two countries,” he said.

He said ‘The Raga Boyz’ is a group of three brothers of Pakistan, who belong to the Patiala Gharana of music. Arun Sharma said the lineage of Patiala Gharana goes back to Ustad Kaluji (Durbar Gayak of Maharaja Bhupinder Singh), followed by his sons and the greatest singers of that era — Ustad General Ali Baksh and Ustad Badey Fateh Ali Khan.

The legacy of this family continued with the descendants and pioneers of modern Classical music like Ustad Ashiq Ali Khan, Ustad Akhtar Hussain Khan, and his sons Ustad Amanat Ali Khan, Ustad Fateh Ali Khan and the living legend of Pakistan Ustad Hamid Ali Khan.

He said ‘The Raga Boyz’ is the ninth generation of this esteemed family.
