Panchayat officer caught taking bribe

Sleuths of the vigilance bureau has arrested a panchayat department official, red-handed while accepting bribe at Nabha.

The accused identified as Pardeep Kumar is posted as panchayat officer at office of the block development and panchayat office, Nabha.

Giving details, DSP KD Sharma said that Piara Singh, former sarpanch of village Khurd, approached the vigilance bureau, that he has sought the record of village panchayat for last three terms.

However, Pardeep Kumar demanded Rs 50,000 bribe to give the record. He approached the vigilance bureau, which laid the trap and arrested the accused while accepting a bribe of Rs 25000 in cash.

A case under the prevention of corruption act has been registered against the accused, who would be produced in the court by the vigilance bureau to seek remand for further investigation.
