Block Development Committee (BDC) Sangrur has been adjudged the best panchayat samiti of Punjab. Deputy commissioner Sangrur Kumar Rahul said the Sangrur BDC bagged this prize for providing vocational training and for carrying out its development mandate with dedication. The samiti was also appreciated for staying away from politics.
The BDC was chosen after the union rural development department and the Institute of Rural Development at Chandigarh carried out an assessment of panchayat samitis across the state.
The DC added a central team of experts had also visited Sangrur a few days back to assess developmental works carried out by the samiti.
The samiti will be conferred a special prize of Rs 10 lakh on April 24 in a function in New Delhi on the occasion of Panchayat Diwas. The DC has congratulated all administrative officials and panchayat samiti members for bagging the award.
