Panic prevailed in Pathankot town on Tuesday morning after a woman peon claimed that two suspected militants in army uniform with heavy bags entered the school.

Naresh Kumari, the peon of Maharana Pratap Senior Secondary School near the local civil hospital, claimed that the two men in army fatigues entered after jumping over the barbed fence behind the school. She claimed they enquired if the school staff had arrived and then asked for water, which she gave them.

She claimed they fled on seeing the school guard enter the main gate. She reported the matter to school principal Harbans Singh, who informed the police, after which DSP Manoj Thakur and other police officials arrived.

Meanwhile, panicky parents learnt about the incident and took back their children. The school declared a holiday.
On Sunday, two students from Narian Pur Harha village claimed having seen suspected militants after which police and army conducted a search but in vain.

The DSP said the police were on high alert and were taking no chances after the Gurdaspur terror attack.
