One of the leading paper manufacturing facilities of the country, which even supplies newsprint to some of leading newspapers, Khanna Paper Mills has sought to scotch rumours about it is shifting to Gujarat.
The rumours about the mill shutting down its facility in the holy city and re-locating to Gujarat had been doing the rounds for quite some time. Some Opposition Congress leaders had gone on record claiming that due to the policies of the SAD-BJP government, the mills management was disillusioned and was planning to shift out.
Mill's managing director Suneet Kochhar said the mill had been at the receiving end of rumours at various discussion forums about it moving to Gujarat. This has had an adverse impact on the workers and their families, which was not in good taste, he added.
"Khanna Paper Mills does not plan to shut down and move its facility to Gujarat or any other state. We are thriving in the state and see no reason to shift to any other state. Even if we expand, our first priority will always be Punjab," stated Kochhar in a statement released on Saturday.
He added that the mill management extends full support to the vision of the Punjab government under chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal.
"We have come out from the dark phase of terrorism with support of our beloved state and its leadership. The journey from a small-scale industry to a large-scale industry would not have been possible without this support and we are indebted to them for our growth stories," the statement added.
The MD stated that the new Industrial Policy has instilled a new energy in the industries of Punjab and Khanna paper is already contemplating expansion plans in Punjab, especially in Amritsar.
