The parents of Shruti, 15, victim of kidnapping at gunpoint who was rescued from Goa, have asked for the CBI intervention and custody of their daughter who was sent to a shelter home.
The girl who was abducted from here on September 24 and taken to Goa by suspected abductor Nishan Singh, was rescued by the police earlier this week. A court sent her to Nari Niketan in Jalandhar last Monday after she refused to undergo medical examination. Her parents, who went to Jalandhar on Thursday to meet her, want their daughter handed over to them.
They have criticised the authorities for projecting the case as one of elopement. It was improper on part of the police,” the girl’s father, Ashwani Sachdeva, stated here on Friday. “My wife and I were not given enough time to meet our daughter. A police official came and took my wife to see Shruti. When she saw her mother, she broke down and said nothing. In about a minute, the official asked my wife to leave.”
Shruti parents said their daughter was confined in a “highly guarded room” where “close vigil” was maintained on her activities. Kidnapping suspect Nishan Singh has a history of being named in 18 criminal cases. “We want the case handed over to the central bureau of investigation (CBI).” Shruti was kidnapping from house in full public view. The police have, so far, arrested 15 of the 17 suspects in the case.
