Former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Sunday visited journalist Shivraj Singh Raju who was allegedly assaulted by truck union president in Gidderbaha, besides visiting the victim family of father-son duo who were asphyxiated while working in a sewer in the same town in Muktsar district.

Lashing out at the present Congress regime, Badal termed the attack on mediapersons as unfortunate, adding that the media are the fourth pillar of democracy.

He accused the Congress leaders of browbeating the media and demanded freedom of press.

Badal also visited the family of Manish Kumar (28), a vegetable vendor who was hospitalised after he set himself ablaze. Manish had set himself on fire after police didn’t act on his complaint against the local Congressmen who had removed his vegetable kiosk from the market.

“There is no law and order in the state and administration is just playing in the hands of Congress leaders,” Badal said while talking to mediapersons.

The former CM also visited the family of Bittu Kumar (25), who along with his father Lal Chand (52), died while repairing sewer in Gidderbaha.
