A bridge on a rivulet near Kandrori (HP) village at Pathankot-Indora road collapsed on late Thursday evening. The locals, who anticipated the bridge-collapse due to the raging flow of the rivulet, had assembled on both sides of the river before the incident and stopped vehicular movements, averting a major mishap.
Those present at the spot also took pictures of the bridge going down into the rivulet.
With the collapse of this linking bridge, the commuters are now adopting a by-pass road, adding nearly 20 kilometres to the trip to reach Indora in Hiamchal Pradesh from Pathankot (Punjab).
The narrow bridge was meant for one-way heavy traffic and had lost one side a year ago which was repaired by the HPWD (High Plains Water District) officials.
Ram Kumar, a local, said, “This was the only linking bridge to many villages. I don’t think the department will be able to mend it within this month as the heavy flow of the rivulet will not allow contruction.”
“We will have to take a lengthy route to reach Indora from Pathankot,” said Naval Kishore, a trader of Pathankot who has his business at Indora.
