A man put his life in danger while trying to nab two chain-snatchers after chasing them here on Saturday.

Davinder Singh, 39, of Nangal Bhoor in Pathankot suffered a fracture near his neck besides other injuries. His brave act has become the talk of the town.

Monika of Chakminhasa village near Nangal Bhoor, who had come to her parents' house, and husband Nirmal Singh were on their way back home at Kanwa on the Pathankot-Jalandhar highway on a scooter when the two youths on a motorcycle snatched her chain.

Davinder, who witnessed the snatching, started chasing the youths on his motorcycle. The youths reached near the Chakki bridge. Davinder said the youths left their motorcycle on the bridge and jumped around 100 feet into the river, and he too followed them. They fell on the muddy banks where one of the snatchers turned unconscious and he, along with the other snatcher, suffered injuries.

He said, "I did not bother about my injuries and overpowered the other snatcher trying to run away. Soon police arrived on the scene and took the two along. I am happy that I caught the snatchers as they have made people's lives hell."

Sadar SHO Gurdev Singh claimed that the accused had been identified as Dalip Kumar of Channi Beli in Himachal Pradesh and Jatinder Kumar of Tanda. He said they had booked the two and the court had sent them into day-long police custody.
