Patiala divisional commissioner Ajeet Singh Pannu on Friday inspected Fatehgarh Sahib and met district officials to get feedback on the state's drug de-addiction and rehabilitation campaign in the region.
He held marathon meetings with deputy commissioner Arun Sekhri, senior superintendent of police (SSP) Gurmit Singh Chauhan, sub-divisonal magistrate and civil surgeon at the district administrative complex.
Pannu directed hospital authorities to get details of addicts hooked to synthetic drugs, heroin and smack. He asked authorities to concentrate on patients' rehabilitation while simultaneously preparing a list of drug addicts in the district. He said this would help in following up on patients till they completed their treatment and shunned drugs altogether.
He also urged the officials to create awareness among villagers to curb the menace.
He suggested that youth clubs should be roped in the mission and to help rehabilitate patients through games.
He emphasised that multi- level campaigns would be started and added that schools and colleges should hold cultural programmes and seminars to spread awareness about the ill-effects of using drugs.
