A flying cadet at the Patiala Flying Academy has accused her instructor of making indecent advances during a sortie.

Following the complaint lodged on Saturday by the cadet's father, the local police have started an investigation and summoned flying instructor Anmolak Singh and the latter's father, chief instructor Capt Malkiat Singh. Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Hardial Singh Mann has asked deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Kesar Singh to probe the matter and submit a report.

In the complaint, Anmolak has been accused of indecent advances, while Malkiat faces allegations of making fictitious entries of flying hours.

"We will taken action only after getting a report from the DSP," the SSP said.

The DSP said the complainant had accused Malkiat of charging money for per-hour flying, but providing only 25 to 30 minutes of flying, thereby embezzling nearly Rs 70,000.

Both parties have been summoned to record their statements.

Refuting the allegations, Malkiat said the flying cadet was performing below average, so she was levelling baseless charges. "Me and my son are open to any inquiry, as we can prove her inability to learn flying," he said. He said he and his son had so far trained more than 500 girls, but none had complained about any misconduct.

Malkiat said he would seek action against the complainant for maligning his reputation.
