With parliamentary elections coming nearer, the Shiromani Akali Dal is focusing on the Patiala parliamentary constituency, a constituency which has been ruled by incumbent Congress member parliament Preneet Kaur for the past 15 years.

Deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal is all set to visit different areas in the Patiala parliamentary constituency on Thursday. Cabinet minister Bikram Singh Majithia will be present in the Patiala constituency on March 24.

Meanwhile, the leaders of Bharatiya Janata party are also expected to visit Patiala later in the week.
However, Sukhbir is going to address public gatherings at Dera Bassi , Ghanar and Bhadson and Patiala city areas in the Patiala constituency to seek votes for party candidate Deepinder Singh Dhillon.

This is for the first time that the local organisers have planned Sukhbir’s rally at Qila Mubarak Chowk, situated in the heart of the city and a strong bastion of Preneet and her husband Captain Amarinder Singh, a former chief minister.

In the view of party president’s visit, the local leaders have left no stone unturned to make the rally success. The councillors have been asked to bring as many people as possible to the rally venue, while both incumbent and former mayors Amarinder Bajaj and Ajitpal Singh Kohli, respectively, have been personally looking after the arrangements.

Mayor Amarinder Bajaj said Qila Mubarak chowk not only had historical importance but was one of the oldest area of city. “It is going to be the party president’s first visit to the interiors of the city and this is the best venue,” he added.
