Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) member of parliament (MP) Dr Dharamvir Gandhi on Monday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national capital with representation of long-pending issues of his Patiala constituency, including taming of Ghaggar river.

Calling on the PM on the sidelines of the budget session, Dr Gandhi submitted his proposal to construct 32 check dams with the help of geo bags at identified points on the Ghaggar.

He said there was a need to make the river pollution-free. He also discussed in detail the poor rail connectivity to Patiala and 10 other districts of the Malwa region with the PM.

Besides asking for specific rail routes suiting residents of Punjab's southern districts, Dr Gandhi urged the PM to speed up the double laning and electrification of the Rajpura- Bathinda railway line.

He also sought the Centre's funding for fencing the five vulnerable wildlife sanctuaries to prevent man-animal conflict.

The deplorable road and sewerage infrastructure and problem of railway overbridge near the Patiala bus stand were other issues discussed at the meeting.
