414 polling booths hypersensitive in Patiala; micro-observers deployed

The stage is set for the parliamentary elections as 15.73 lakh voters will decide the fate of 20 candidates in the fray from Patiala constituency on Wednesday.

As many as 1,772 polling stations have been set across the constituency, while 16,000 civil employees and police and paramilitary personnel will guard these polling booths. There are 8.29 lakh male and 7.44 lakh female voters and 17,720 first-time voters in the constituency.

While distributing EVMs and other election-related material to poll officials, Patiala deputy commissioner-cum-district electoral officer Priyank Bharti said polling will start at 7am and cameras have been installed in 27 polling stations through which the polling process can be watched online on the election commission website.

The Patiala administration has marked 414 polling booths as “hypersensitive” and 239 as “sensitive”.

“Micro observers will keep watch on activities at sensitive and hypersensitive booths till the election process ends on Wednesday,” Bharti said.

Senior superintendent of police Hardial Singh Man said the Punjab-Haryana border falling under Patiala constituency has been sealed till elections, while 20 companies of Haryana police have been deployed to keep tab on activities of anti-state elements.
