5 held for smuggling 5-lakh intoxicant capsules

The Rajpura police have arrested five people for smuggling 5-lakh intoxicant capsules in a truck. The accused were also booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act for trying to bribe the police officials to hush up the case.

Rajpura SP Bhupinder Singh Khatra said, a police team from Banur, led by Bikramjit Singh Brar, on specific tip off, intercepted a truck and seized 5.04 lakh intoxicant capsules from it. The drugs were concealed under the vegetables and fruit boxes.

The police arrested five occupants of the truck, identified as Jagdish Singh of Ferozepur, who was driving the vehicle; Arvinder Kumar of Chandan Nagar, Ludhiana; Ashok Kumar of Shakti Vihar, Ludhiana, and cleaner Tarsem Lal.

The SP said following the seizure, Ashok Kumar and Arvinder offered Rs. 50,000 to ASI Avtar Singh to hush up the case. When the police informed the owners of truck, identified as Gopal Kishan and Naresh Kumar, about the happening, they offered the police another Rs. 50,000 to hush up the matter. After this, the police booked the truck occupants and owners under the Prevention of Corruption Act for trying to bribe the police.

The SP said police teams had been dispatched to nab the truck owners.
