Always in news for good reasons, the traditional vegetable of Punjab, known as saag, came in news, perhaps for the first time for wrong reasons.

A 90-year-old villager Puran Dass lost his life after he objected four persons, including three women, to enter his fields as they had gone there to fetch saag.

Gurmeet Singh, assistant sub-inspector at Sirhind police station said on the statement of the deceased' son Pritam Dass, a resident of Channalon village; Sirhind police have registered a case against Karamjeet Kaur, Sona, Swaran Kaur and Tarsem Khan of the same village under Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code.

Pritam said when his father had objected these persons over entering his fields for fetching saag they had beaten him, who later died.

Gurmeet Singh said no arrest has been made in the case so far. The assistant sub-inspector said, “We are conducting raids to nab the accused.”
