The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP’s) local leaders have reacted strongly to former Punjab chief minister and Amritsar MP Captain Amarinder Singh’s statement that the AAP in Punjab was a party of Naxalites. A note issued by the AAP states: ‘The former royal has lost clout in his city and is thus talking baseless things’.

Patiala MP Dharamvira Gandhi has also hit out at Amarinder and has denied all charges.

“I do not want to indulge in mudslinging. Amarinder might have been disturbed with the rise of the AAP in Punjab and that too in his bastion,” he claimed.

“I was associated with the Students Movement and even went to jail for opposing the emergency in 1997. I have fought for the public. My life is an open book,” he added.

“I advise captain Amarinder to refrain from personal attacks. I want to empower the common man, which full-time politicians have failed to do since independence,” he added. Some AAP workers have even demanded an apology from Amarinder.

AMARINDER STICKS TO STAND
Amarinder, on Sunday, reiterated his charges that two of the four AAP MPs were Naxalites and had been actively involved with the movement in 1960s. “I challenge these leaders and the AAP to deny any involvement in Naxalism,” he said.

He categorically reiterated that Patiala MP Dr Dharamvir Shastri and Faridkot MP Prof Sadhu Singh and another leader Dr Balbir Singh, who is planning to contest from Patiala City vacated by Capt Amarinder, after his election from Amritsar parliamentary constituency, were actively involved with the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) (CPI-ML), an ultra left extremist organization and that there was no question of any apology.

“I will like to clarify that I never said that Dr Daljeet Singh from Amritsar was a Naxalite,” he added.

He claimed that he would soon come out with more revelations on the alleged links of AAP members with Naxalites.
