Akali leader's son fires at student near Patiala

Barely two weeks after ASI Ravinder Pal Singh's murder by an Akali leader in Amritsar, Shiromani Akali Dal district secretary Jarnail Singh Bhangu's son shot at a student following a clash on Tuesday.

The accused, Hardeep Singh Bhangu (18), used his father's licensed .32-bore pistol. Hardeep and his friend Ankit have been arrested under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the India Penal Code and various sections of the Arms Act.

Hardeep attacked Harful Pathak, a student of RIMT Institutes in Gobindgarh in the main bazaar of Bhadson town, firing directly at him. Hardeep was accompanied by his friend Ankit, a local resident ate the time of incident. Both accused were Class-12 students of 10+2 at KK School on Sirhind road in Patiala.

Harful, a student of RIMT Institutes in Gobindgarh, has been shot at his left thigh and left arm by Hardeep with father's licensed.

He has been rushed to local hospital from he was referred to Government Rajindra Hospital, where his condition is said to be normal.

Harful alleged that Hardeep along with Ankit in their car intercepted his way while he was going to his house. "Both the accused started abusing me in the main market for no reasons. Avoiding them, I went to my place, situated in market, but they followed me and asked me to sit in their car or to get ready to face dire consequences to life", he alleged.

"On my refusal to sit in car, Hardeep took out his gun and fired him at his arm. Hearing the gun shots, local shopkeepers held Hardeep but he fired second  gun shot that hit me in my thigh", he alleged.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Gurpreet Singh Gill said both the accused persons have been arrested. "It was a student clash that took bloody turn. We have started investigation into the matter to know about reason behind brat", Gill said overruling any political angle in fight", he said.

He ruled out any political angle in the fight and said that police also booked father of accused who is real owner of weapon.

Meanwhile, Congress MLA from Nabha Sadhu Singh Dharamsot said, "This is another incident which proves that jungle raj is prevailing in Punjab. "The common man is not safe in the state, even though deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal claims that the law and order situation in Punjab is better than in other states."
