Punjab chief minister (CM) Parkash Singh Badal on Saturday accused the former CM Captain Amarinder Singh and other Congress leaders of being anti-Punjab and opposing sanctioning of grants and other pro-Punjab decisions when the UPA government was in power at the Centre.
Badal lashed out at the Congress candidate Preneet Kaur and the Captain and said that he had been the CM while she had been union minister and member of Parliament (MP) for 15 years, but the couple neither did a single good deed nor established any memorable project in the city or the state.
Addressing rallies in favour of SAD-BJP candidate Bhagwan Dass Juneja, the CM said, "Though the Congress always discriminated against Punjab, during the Congress-led-UPA rule these leaders went out of the way to stop grants and all help for the state."

Talking about the SAD-BJP candidate, the CM said they had chosen Juneja as their candidate looking at his selfless service and zeal to work for the city. He urged the people to vote for him to ensure the city's development.

When asked about the state's mounting debts, the CM said that he had taken up the matter with the Centre. But, the government had just taken the charge and the issue would soon be discussed in detail.

Saying that unemployment was a national problem, the CM said the central government's help would be sought to tackle the issue.
Speaking on occasion, Juneja said that serving the city's residents was the prime focus of his life and promised to outshine Preneet's 15 years' work by working for just two years.

Prominent among those who spoke on the occasion included Anandpur Sahib MP Prem Singh Chandumajra, cabinet ministers Parminder Singh Dhindsa, Surjit Singh Rakhra and Dr Daljit Singh Cheema among others.
