Attack on Patiala nominee: AAP lifts dharna

Leaders and workers of the Aam Adami Party (AAP) on Friday lifted their dharna after getting an assurance that the administration would make addition of relevant section of the Indian Penal Code as indicated by the medical legal report of Dr Dharamvira Gandhi, AAP candidate from Patiala, in the FIR lodged earlier.

APP supporters sat on a dharna on Thursday in front of the deputy commissioner’s office to lodge a protest against the attack on Dr Gandhi.

The police had registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) but murderous assault (attempt to murder) was not included in the FIR. AAP was demanding to include these sections in the FIR.

Dr Balveer Singh, election agent of Dr Gandhi informed that they have lifted the dharna after an assurance from the district administration, including deputy commissioner Priyank Bharti and SSP Hardial SIngh Mann.

He said:”The district administration has assured us to take appropriate ste ps ag ainst the accused persons after going through the medical reports of our workers who were hurt in the attack. We will provide medical certificates to the administration. Till then we will wait for further action.”

On April 30, Dr Gandhi was alleged ly attacked by S AD workers led by a local councillor at Rasoolpura Saidan village. Meanwhile, the police have included the attempt to murder charges in another FIR registered following an attack on AAP worker Kartar Singh, at Jalabaad village near Devigarh in this constituency, on the day of polling. He was referred to the PGIMER, Chandigarh.
