Bail of two more accused in Patiala land scam rejected

A court here on Monday rejected the bail applications of two more accused in the Patiala land scam. Additional district and session judge NS Gill rejected the applications of Yashpal Aggarwal and Devinder Sandhu, who had purchased land from the other accused in the case.

During the arguments, the lawyer of the two accused pleaded that his clients were innocent. "My clients are being cheated as government employees and others had sold government land to them," the defence lawyer said.

Additional public prosecutor Sanjiv Batra informed the court that deputy commissioner (DC) Vikas Garg, who is an accused, was in touch with the buyers and produced the call records to prove his claim. He said the two were hand-in-glove in the sale and purchase of land. "As," he said, "they got the land registered on impugned and expired power of attorney."

Earlier, the court had rejected the bail applications of DC Vikas Garg, tehisldar GS Walia and other three accused in the case. The VB had then said their custodial interrogation was important to the case. Meanwhile SSP (VB) Pritam Singh said they had conducted many raids to nab Garg, Walia and other accused, but they had managed to give them the slip every time. He said if the accused did not turn themselves up, the VB would start the procedure to declare them proclaimed offenders.
