A local sikh organisation on Wednesday organised a peaceful protest outside the office of the deputy commissioner here against the ban on Punjabi film "Sadda Haq".

Demanding that the ban be over, the agitators raised slogans against the Punjab government before submitting a memorandum to deputy commissioner Kumar Rahul. Harjinder Singh, head priest of Gurdwara Mastuana Sahib, said the state's history of police excesses and exploitation of young people at the hands of politicians could not be denied by banning the release of the film based on the times of militancy in the state.

"The government only shows what suits it and restricts films that project the issues related to Punjab," he said. “It's not the first time that a film based on true incidents has been made.” The state government had banned the movie on the ground that it glorified terrorists and their activities in Punjab.

The movie, which earlier received a green signal from the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), later was banned the night before its release on April 5.
