Swine flu has claimed its second victim in Barnala district as earlier Sukhdev Singh, a resident of Kaleka village, had died of flu last month.

Barnala civil surgeon Dr Baldev Raj said following the death, teams of doctors had been sent to the deceased's village to closely examine people who were in contact with the deceased and other villagers.

“We will provide tablets of tami flu to all residents of the village to avoid a breakout of the disease. Moreover, awareness campaigns and pamphlets regarding symptoms of flu will be distributed among people," he said.

Dr Baldev said the health teams had also tracked a few relatives and villagers who had come in direct contact with the affected person.

“All these have been given preventive medicines and have been advised to immediately visit the health department in case they feel the symptoms of the virus,” he said.
