Bhola aide caught

The district police on Tuesday arrested Bathinda's Devinder Singh "Happy" as aide of international drug smuggler and dismissed Punjab DSP Jagdish Singh Bhola.

From Devinder Singh, who is from Thermal Colony at Lehra Mohabbat near Bathinda, the police claim to have seized 8.50-kilogram ephedrine, a chemical raw material for heroin. In the earlier heroin seizure case, so far, Bhola and dismissed sub-inspector Sarabjit Singh continue to be on the run.

Toyota Quails car and finding the heroin raw material inside," said senior superintendent of police HS Mann. "The chemical was in a plastic bag."

The Toyota Quails seized from Devinder Singh belongs to Sarabjit Singh, who had sent him to deliver the ephedrine consignment.

The police also found two driving licences on Devinder Singh, one of which was fake. They registered a case under Sections 420 (cheating), 465 (punishment for forgery), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), and 471 (using a forged document as genuine) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 21 (punishment for contravention in relation to manufactured drugs and preparations) and 61 (confiscation of goods used for concealing illicit drugs or substances) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Fatehgarh Sahib.

During police interrogation, Devinder Singh had accepted that that he had close relations with expatriate Anoop Singh Kahlon, Jagdish Singh Bhola, and Sarabjit Singh and had been involved with them in drug trafficking and hawala racket, said the SSP.
