"What is wrong if the state has contributed Rs. 1 crore to an historic institution of learning, which has been imparting quality education for more than 160 years?" he said.

He added that the hue and cry over the issue was misplaced.

"There is nothing inappropriate or sinful in Sukhbir's decision. Punjab is not going to starve, if it makes a donation of Rs. 1 crore. Let us not portray the state in such a poor light vis-a-vis other states."
