'Blackmailed' by property dealers, taxi driver ends life

Upset over alleged blackmailing by certain property dealers, a taxi driver identified as Karamjit Singh on Tuesday committed suicide by consuming poison at Saipur village in Khamano town of district.

As per information Gaganpreet Singh, son of the deceased, lodged a complaint to police that suspects Kuldeep Chand Madan, Avtar Singh, Satwinder Singh, all property dealers in Khamano, were having business relations with his father.

They had allegedly stolen some blank cheques of his father and filed a court case for the non-payment of Rs  10 lakh. The suspects had also reportedly lodged a wrong complaint with the police to pressurise his father to extract money.

Upset over the alleged pressure and blackmailing, Karamjit committed suicide by consuming poison. Following the complaint, the police have registered a case of 306 IPC against the suspects, who are at large after the incident. The police are conducting raids to nab them, said ASI Narinder Singh, who is the investigating officer of the case.
