Book on Maharaja Ranjit Singh released

A book, "Maharaja Ranjit Singh", throwing light on the life of famous Sikh ruler was released on Monday. The book has been edited by Dr Bhagwant Singh and Canada- based writer Gill Moranwali.


The book carries several authenticated research based documents written by 13 scholars and historians pertaining to historical events happened at that time.

Dr Bhagwant Singh, deputy director at language department said the book carried details relating to personal life, his style of administrative working, his contribution in establishing Sikh raj, his relationship with Britishers and several other facts about him.

"The facts have been presented on the basis of available translated authentic documents", he said.

The book also carried letters of his son Maharaja Duleep Singh besides pictures of Ranjit Singh and his family.

PSPCL’s Rs 24-crore payment for coal reduced to ‘ashes’

In a major shock to the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), it paid Rs 24 crore in advance for coal which turned out be largely ash.The quality of coal supplied by M/s Panem during May and June 2014 was particularly poor on account of higher ash content (more than 34%) or lower (less than 4,000 kcal per kg) gross calorific value (GCV).
