African student Yannick Nihangaza, who was assaulted by some youths in Jalandhar two years ago, succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.
Yannick, who hailed from Burundi and was pursuing bachelor's degree in computer science at Lovely Professional University, had been in coma for the past two years and was airlifted to his native country just two weeks ago.
The Punjab government had paid Rs. 75 lakh for arranging the air ambulance, which lifted him from Patiala airport, where cabinet minister Surjit Singh Rakhra and deputy commissioner Varun Roojam were present to see Yannick and his father Nestor Ntibateganya off.
His father, who had been in India to take care of Yannick, was in trauma as he had exhausted his resources in shuttling between offices to get help.
