A day after the district police caught Jaspreet Singh, main accused in the murder of former Barnala legislator Malkeet Singh Keetu, they claim another breakthrough.
Two of Jaspreet's alleged accomplices are now reportedly caught with stolen vehicles and a huge cache of arms and ammunition. “The arrest of Arshdeep Singh Bittu of Mehal Kalan and Inderjit Singh of Dhilwan is based on a secret input,” senior superintendent of police Snehdeep Sharma said here on Tuesday. “The men were trapped in Barnala district.”
During preliminary investigation, the two men accepted that they had carjacked a Hyundai Verna and a Hyundai i20 at gunpoint from Sirhind and Panchkula, respectively, and opened fire at the Sector 22-23 light point in Chandigarh in December last year, the SSP has said. “They had hand in 10 crimes in Moga, five in Barnala, and two in Mohali,” Sharma added.
The weapon haul comprises a 0.32-calibre revolver, a 0.303-calibre rifle, a 0.30-bore spring rifle, a 0.315-bore rifle, a 0.12-calibre pistol, and 12 live cartridges.
“A hunt is on for two of Jaspreet's accomplices who had fled during special operation on Monday at Dera Bassi,” said the SSP.
