The dismissed ET official has been identified as Darshan Kumar, who was posted in Bathinda.

Another inspector Vijay Kumar, who was found guilty of clearing four bogus entries, has also been punished by the ET Department by stopping his two increments with cumulative effect.

Confirming the dismissal of inspector Darshan Kumar, excise and taxation commissioner Anurag Verma said the action was taken after a report was received from Assistant ET commissioner in this regard. The report revealed that a firm named Laxmi Rice Mill had purchased paddy worth Rs. 2 crore from within the state but with the intention to evade payment of purchase tax of 5.5% on it, it had claimed to have made these purchases from outside the state.

"In order to generate false evidence in support of its claim, the firm had got made bogus entries showing passage of vehicles carrying paddy through the Chullar Kalan barrier in connivance with dismissed inspector", Verma said.

The purchase tax, which was evaded by the firm owners in collusion with officials, has been calculated around Rs. 11 lakh.

"During inspection of barrier record by ET's mobile wing, it came to fore that Darshan Kumar was responsible for clearing 45 vehicles on the basis of bogus entries while Vijay Kumar cleared four vehicles in the same manner. No copy of bills have been actually recovered from the barrier showing involvement of both the inspectors", he said.

It may be mentioned that the matter came into light in October, 2013  after aforesaid mill owners admitted to irregularities and named above officials in assisting them. Following this, Darshan Kumar was placed under suspension while Assistant ET commissioner SS Bangar was directed to hold an inquiry into the matter.

"In the enquiry, it was established that trucks had not crossed the barrier and only bogus entries had been made. It was also found that one of the vehicles, HR-46-A 8077, shown in the bogus entries, was actually an oil tanker which was shown as truck carrying paddy", Verma said.

"Sensing the gravity of the matter, Darshan Kumar has been dismissed from service", he added.
