Aam Aadmi Party leader and Fatehgarh Sahib member of Parliament (MP) Harinder Singh Khalsa condemned the purported hike in electricity tariff in the state.
Questioning the timing of the announcement, which came after the Lok Sabha polls and ahead of assembly byelection, he said that the move was condemnable as it will be binding on consumers retrospectively from April.
Saying that the steps were anti-people, he remarked it would further burden the common man who was reeling under the pressures of high inflation and rising food prices.
He said that the Badal government was "bent upon making the lives of people miserable" and announced the AAP's opposition of the "people's exploitation".
He further taunted the government by saying that the state's "directionless economic policy" had led to the exhausting of all modes of fund generation; because of which it was resorting to anti-people policies.
