Folk dancers revive ethnic culture

North Zone Cultural Centre (NZCC), Patiala orgnised a cultural event based on folk dances of different states of India at Desh Bhagat University, Mandi Gobindgarh on Monday.


Folk singers and dancers from seven states including Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Assam, Jharkhand, ttarakhand, Gujarat and Punjab presented a picture of ethnic culture and heritage.

The program started with the performance of folk nstruments followed by Rajsthani artists who presented their folk songs. Artists from Assam presented Shikla dance while Dogri dance was performed by the artists from Jammu and Kashmir.

Presentation of Dandia dance by Gujarati artists and Kaalbelia dance by Rajasthani artists mesmerised the audience.

Chhau dance from Jharkhand and Chaapeli dance from Uttrakhand were based on mythological stories which were appreciated by everyone. The beautiful presentation of Punjab's folk dance Malwai Giddha stole the show. The performance of Gatka team was also impressive. Famous singer Balbir Sufi sang Sufi Kalaam and folk songs.

Another attractive presentation of this programme was fusion dance presentation by a famous Punjabi artist,Dipanwita and her group. It was a combination of classical dance and Sufi music.

Director of NZCC, DS Saroya, was the guest of honour. Desh Bhagat University chancellor Zora
Singh inaugurated the event.
