Former Punjabi University V-C dead

Renowned scholar and former vice chancellor of Punjabi University Dr Bhagat Singh Shergill passed away early Saturday morning.

A nonagenarian, he was unwell for the past few days.

He served as V-C of Punjabi University for two terms from 1980-83 and 1986-89.

Incumbent VC of Punjabi University Dr Jaspal Singh expressed deep grief over the demise of former V-C.

Born at Moranwali village in Sangrur district, he graduated from Forman Christian Medical College, Lahore, and then did his masters in economics and bachelors in law from Lucknow University.

He had his PhD in agricultural economics from Cornell University in the USA.

He joined as a lecturer of economics at Patiala’s Government Mohindra College in 1945.

Bhagwant meets UK deputy high commissioner
