More than a week after the assurance given to Vidhu Jain's family by Rajya Sabha MP and Shiromani Akali Dal general secretary Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa  that Vidhu's murder case will be handed over to the CBI by  December 18, there was no development in this case.

"I am not aware that the case is being handed over to the CBI, as of now I have not received any communication," says a senior officer of Punjab police who was dealing with the case. The officer, on the condition of not disclosing his name said, " I have heard that some politicians have given assurance to the victim's family that their case will be handed over to the CBI for a fair probe, but till date I am not aware about any step being taken in this direction".  He, however, refuted that the  police was not doing anything in the case saying, "the police was doing its duty and the matter was being investigated thoroughly"

On the other hand, family members of Vidhu Jain, who was burnt alive in broad daylight in Malerkotla on September 30, have said that they are fed up with the repeated rounds to the police and politicians to seek justice.

When contacted Vidhu's father Navneet Jain said, "On December 15 we met Rajya Sabha MP Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa at Malerkotla,  who assured us that he will take up this issue with the deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and Vidhu's case will be handed over to the CBI by  December 18".

"But almost a week later, we did not get any update about handing over this case to the CBI. Now we are
again planning to take up our demand with other politicians", he added.

He also accused the police of not taking their issue seriously saying, "Almost three months after the incident the police have done nothing in the case. Whenever we approach them to seek any update into the case they evade us saying that they are waiting for forensic lab report, which will come from Hyderabad"

"We have done what we could do to get justice but all is in vain. Now we are totally helpless. I don't think that the culprits will be arrested", he added.

When contacted Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, who is aspiring to contest the coming Lok Sabha elections from Sangrur, said "Soon after my meeting with the victim family I had taken up this issue with the deputy chief minister and the DGP. They have given their assurance to hand over this case to the CBI. Now I will again talk to the higher authorities to hand over this case to CBI immediately."
