The Punjab and Haryana high court on Friday handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) the probe into former Patiala mayor Jaspal Singh's daughter-in-law's alleged murder in February last year.

Pronouncing the judgment reserved in the case on November 29 last year, justice Amol Rattan Singh said that till the probe was completed by the CBI, the trial court proceedings in the case would remain stayed.

An FIR was registered on February 23 last year at the Kotwali police station, Patiala, under Sections 302 (murder) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC. The petitioner had alleged that Parampreet was first poisoned and then strangulated by her in-laws.

Amarjit Singh Sodhi had moved the high court seeking a CBI probe into the alleged murder of his daughter Parampreet Kaur.
